According to Myanmar Corn Industry Association, Myanmar corn will be exported to Thailand duty-free from February 1, 2021.

It is understood that Myanmar and Thailand will sign a memorandum on duty-free export of Myanmar corn. At present, both sides are preparing. According to the memorandum, Myanmar's corn will be exported to Thailand duty-free from February 1 to August 31, 2021.

At present, Myanmar corn is mainly planted in Southern Shan state, northern Shan state, Kachin state, kayah state, Naypyidaw, Mandalay, Sagaing Province, Irrawaddy province and other provinces and states. According to the situation of corn planting in rainy season this year, it is estimated that more than 2 million tons of corn will be produced.

In order to export Myanmar corn to China in accordance with the law, the two governments are negotiating, the corn Association said.

According to the data of the Ministry of Commerce, Myanmar's corn export volume reached 2.2 million tons last fiscal year (2019-2020), with an export volume of about US $360 million.

Since the beginning of this year, domestic corn consumption has increased. In order to meet market demand, the authorities will reduce corn exports. It is understood that the corn will be used in Thailand's industrial production or feed processing. In addition, Vietnam and the Philippines are gradually increasing their corn demand for Myanmar.

According to the data of the Ministry of Commerce, from October 1 to November 13 in the first month of this fiscal year (2020-2021), Myanmar's agricultural exports reached US $435 million, an increase of about US $100 million year on year.
