According to the trade data of Myanmar's Ministry of Commerce, Myanmar's foreign trade volume will reach US $33.5 billion in the 11 months from October 1, 2019 to August 28, 2020. Among them, the export volume was 15.9 billion US dollars and the import volume was 17.6 billion US dollars. China's foreign trade increased by US $1.6 billion over the same period of the previous fiscal year.

China's main exports are agricultural products, animal products, aquatic products, mining products, forestry products and industrial products. The main imported goods are commercial goods, construction goods, medicines and daily necessities. 80% of foreign trade is done by sea, while border trade is done through 17 ports.

As we all know, at present, the largest port in Myanmar is Yangon port, which has 41 berths and undertakes 90% of Myanmar's international maritime trade. However, with the continuous development of Myanmar's foreign economy, the throughput of Yangon port has been unable to meet the domestic export volume.

Myanmar has made remarkable achievements in maritime transportation this year. In order to continue to develop maritime transportation, the Ministry of Commerce announced on September 14 that the government plans to build five inland ports on the Irrawaddy River and the chinton River to improve the inland logistics and water transportation capacity. Among these ports, priority will be given to the construction of Mandalay port and BAMO port. The port construction is conducive to strengthening the trade between Myanmar and several neighboring countries.

After the completion of the construction of these ports, it will help to reduce freight costs, speed up the loading and unloading time, so as to effectively transport goods, drive regional economic development, and bring more employment opportunities to the local people.
