The feasibility study of two expressway projects in Myanmar is nearly completed

According to the Ministry of construction, the feasibility study of Yangon Mandalay Expressway and Yangon yiyougao Expressway in charge of South Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) is nearly completed.

It is reported that the final coordination meeting of the project feasibility report of the two projects was held on October 21. Wu Hansuo, Minister of construction, said that the Yangon Mandalay expressway is currently in use, connecting three major cities in Myanmar, namely Yangon Naypyidaw Mandalay, and is an important part of the North South economic corridor. In addition, the Yangon yiyougao expressway, which connects Yangon with the coast of Irrawaddy Province, is a very important project for Myanmar's east west economic corridor.

According to the project bank announced by the government, the Yangon Mandalay highway will cost US $960 million and the Yangon Bosheng road will cost US $120 million. In addition, the Yangon Mandalay Expressway and the 64 km section upgrading from Yangon to dafota will be loaned by Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the rest will be completed through PPP system. Yooshin engineering is the design and bidding discipline consultant of the project.

The 587 km (365 mile) Yangon Mandalay highway will pass through major cities including Naypyidaw. India and China will use the highway as an Asian Highway and part of the Asian Highway Network ah1. The project is expected to start in fy2019-20 and complete in fy2020-21.

Wu angmin Wu, director of the Land Bureau, said that the government had announced that the Yangon Bosheng yiyougao road would be upgraded to ASEAN Level 3. KOICA is also working on the feasibility study of a 216 km long two-way four lane asphalt road project from Yangon to Bosheng to yiyougao.
